The mission of the OCWB is to facilitate cross-sector collaboration between government, non-profits, the private sector, anchor institutions, and the community, with the goal of advancing community wealth building policies, programs, initiatives, and systems throughout the Rochester community.
In order to achieve this mission the OCWB operates under four directives:
The Rochester Association of Black Journalists strives to help ensure diversity in area media and accurate, balanced coverage of communities of color while serving as a resource for both established and aspiring communicators of African descent.
RABJ brings together people of color who work in the media, or media-related jobs throughout the Rochester area. We provide professional support and development for journalist of color and awards scholarships to promising young black students who plan to pursue careers as journalists.
The Black Physicians Network believes that having more black physicians will reduce health disparities and improve the health of the community. We are committed to developing that next generation.
We are role models, mentors, and advocates.
By sharing our lived experiences, we help current medical students understand that the barriers they are facing can be overcome and that we will support them through mentoring, scholarship support, and emergency funding. We provide inspiration to elementary and high school students who dream of pursuing careers in medicine. And we advocate for increased diversity within our health care systems.
RBBA was formed to articulate and promote the needs of attorneys of color and strives to effectuate change in the greater Rochester legal community.
#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer.Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes.
